Tere O'Connor Dance RAMMED EARTH (excerpts)

  1. This dance really reminded me of the necessary attention to detail that choreography like this incorporates. It has been on my mind since we started learning our new phrase in class, and I think I was paying particular attention to it while watching these clips. Every movement, however simple, is precise and purposefully defined. Even things like the way the foot is pointed or flexed, or if the hand is stiff or loose become essential parts of the movements. I think that is something really unique to contemporary dance that I really admire, because what it means to me is that even though the movements can be simple and ordinary, they are still detailed and thoughtfully choreographed. I thought the beginning was interesting when they used the wall to bounce off of and i also loved the partner work in that one part with the tall blonde man and the girl in red shorts...I liked how they seemed to be moving each other and even though you know it was rehearsed, the dancers were not anticipating the next moves but it actually seemed as though they were in control of each other.
